Design for Lifetime

Dawn Danby's Sustainability Workshop at autodesk.com is a valuable resource of videos offering succinct introductions to the complexities of sustainable design. I used one of their Whole Systems Design videos for my systems thinking lecture and the students responded very positively that it helped them understand the concepts. Yesterday, we watched the Design for Lifetime video. What I like about this video is how it navigates some of the material and cultural issues of durability and longevity. It provided a good jumping-off point for class discussion around the designers role in shaping social patterns of consumption.
