Three fellow MAA students Vanessa Arnold, Sean Arden and Elisa Yon presented the group with the concept of an entire show of white objects that can be interacted with during a one night exhibition. A welcome break to create something through pure making. I took the idea quite literally and created a pure white book that would become dirty when handled. This book features two separately bound pop-up books. The top has 15 synonyms to the concept of dirty, the bottom having 15 ideas of white. The reader can mix and match to juxtapose new combinations and create new meaning.
It was nice to spend a day cutting, stitching and pasting. I feel reconnected with the act of thinking with my hands and inspired to integrate more hands on making into my studio practice to balance the theory.
